The ears help to frame the face and help define your facial shape. Large or protruding ears can detract from your facial appearance and draw attention away from your natural facial beauty. Unfortunately, many children with protruding ears may be teased about their ear shape causing them to become self-conscious about it. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that can help to pin back or reshape the ear structure to create a better ear position, appearance, and symmetry.

Otoplasty Procedure

Otoplasty can be done in the office or in an operating room with either sedation or general anesthesia depending on your comfort level and preference. Generally, an incision is made behind the ear to access the cartilage structure of the ear. Special sutures are used to reshape and reposition the ear. Sometimes the cartilage may be incised or a portion removed depending on your individual anatomy. A small amount of skin may be removed to help maintain ear position. The incision is closed with stitches and may need to be removed within a week after surgery. The results are immediate and permanent.
